Triskaidekaphobia
That’s a real word and diagnosis. It was coined in 1911 and it’s the fear of the number 13. I can relate to having a fear of certain numbers, but why 13? Possibly because it’s the year that initiates our teens (and we know how awful those were). There is a myth that says Judas was the 13th disciple at the last supper. But without Judas, could there have been Christ’s resurrection that so many people base their faiths upon? 13 is a great number, it is perfectly prime, like 7. We should have 13 months in a year, 13 hours in a day, and definitely a 13th floor!

I love that people around the world change buildings to accommodate their superstitions. And why not? If it makes us feel better and we are going to create it, why not make it our way? I for one am sick and tired of riding all these elevators without a 13th floor. I need to go and make my own elevator. Here’s my first sketch:

I’m quite the artist/architect as you can see. My building will have 9 floors. The elevator with be a triangle. Everything in the building will be arranged for “lefties” or “south paws” or simply left-handed people. They are just luckier and if they inhabit my building, it will be the luckiest building on earth. I am sad to admit that I am right-handed. I tried for a long time as a kid to be left-handed, but failed. Coincidentally, every guy I’ve dated has been a lefty. I suppose these things attract me.
DUODENONAGINTAPHOBIA
It’s a word, coined in 2009 by me. It’s my new diagnosis. Can you guess what it means?
