let’s get me dooced* with this one!

I came across this article from the NY Times yesterday talking about racists Koreans. Man, were they right. I’ve had 7 jobs before the bank and let me tell you, this job is by far the worst (8th job, coincidence?). I actually don’t even mind the bank work, I can open accounts for days. It’s my fucking Korean co-workers that drive me crazier than I already am.

Taken that we are a Korean bank, I guess it’s pretty obvious that we favor our Korean customers. At our bank, you don’t have to have legal documentation to open an account. Hell, you don’t even have to come to sign in person; we’ll do it for you! All you need is a lot of money, and you’re golden. If you’re a rich man, just sleep with one of my bosses, and you’ve just been upgraded to VIP status- where we kindly waive all your fees. Oh right, don’t forget this all only applies if you’re Korean.

If you are Black, just don’t even come in. The tellers will already have one hand on the alarm. They will keep you standing there while they peer at the check you’ve handed them. They’ll talk amongst themselves in Korean while their eyes slash back and forth from the check to you. That’s when they’ll call me to come over (because I speak ENGLISH).

They’ll show me the check comparing it with the signature on the screen and say how obviously forged it is. “But it looks identical,” I’ll protest once, to which they’ll say, “That is exactly why it is forged. Too identical.” Shit, sucks to be you. I’ll apologize and make up some lie as to why we cannot take the check, and send you away. They won’t take their hand off the alarm until you’re out the door.

I told them about the article this morning, and how it said Koreans give a lot of shit to other Korean girls who are with a non-Korean guy. In unison they said, “Oh, her poor parents.”

Suddenly, my obsession with odd’s and left’s seemed so small a problem in comparison. I mean, I’d rather judge numbers for the rest of my life than people.
